Yes, That Would Be The Perfect Career For Me

"Mom, did you go to cooking school?" my 5 year old son asked last night.

"Uh, nooooo. Why?" I was finally able to get out once I stopped the hysterical laughing.

"Because you are such a good cooker. You make the best things. Like this! How did you know how to make this so good? Mmmmmmmm. I know... you should be a cookbook writer. Mmmmmmm."

"First I cooked the elbow shaped macaroni. Then, I open the package of powdered cheese. Added milk and butter. I prefer not to measure exactly. I'm daring and crazy like that. I like to embrace the recipe and make it my own. Stir it up and viola, culinary delight!"

"Mmmmmmmm"

I like to think of it as setting the bar low for my future daughter-in-laws.

Ahh yes, as my hubby would say...I can open a can as well as anybody else...

Gotta love him.

I've been told anyway.

Hope your weekend is better than your week! Gum surgery? (shudder).....

Hehe, my husband used to make box macaroni and cheese for our son. As he was stirring in the milk he'd say "This is where the artistry comes into it."

I'm considering the fact that I laughed until my sides hurt my workout for today. Thank you.

I'm funny like that too.
Never measure the butter or milk. I like mine a little juicy!

I'd like to go on record as saying that my sophisticated tounge really loves Mac n' Cheese. The more fake the better. Also: my husband refers to warming anything up as cooking, and I'm ok with that!

When we were in college my brother went on a semester abroad type of trip and stayed in the UK for a while.

He got off the plane with tales of "they made us mac and cheese without using a box!" He was in awe.

Face it, some of us men aren't THAT picky.

Someone at work once told me about how his mom used to make the best macaroni & cheese. He and his siblings would eat it and just marvel about how good it was, but whenever they'd ask their mom how she did it, she'd just shrug.

Finally, after years of this, he asked his mom point-blank how she made the stuff, and told her she wouldn't always be around to make it and she would have to pass the torch someday.

"So, what's your secret?"
"I just follow the directions on the box!"

the funny thing is, I raised My Kid on Kraft Cheese & Macaroni, and when I finally made some creamy, homemade mac & cheese goodness, HE DIDN'T LIKE IT.

Your daughters-in-law will love you! Believe me, having a mother-in-law who loves to cook, and unfortunately is good at it (plus a *dear* husband who frequently mentions those two facts) makes life at times very difficult.

I never measure anything either (which drives my husband crazy, *evil laugh*).

The young women of the world thank you.

I got rave reviews from Josh over my mac and cheese and fish sticks. Go figure.

That is hilarious. My daughter also thinks I am absolutely talented when I make a batch of cookies from those "Break-n-Bake" Nestle Toll packages.

She always leans over her dinner, drags in a big long breathe through her nose, and whispers, "Wow, that smells dewicious . Thank you so much for my dinner."

my husband starts twitching and foaming at the mouth uncontrollably if he knows that I am cooking something without looking at a recipe. lol

You have to measure the ingredients for that? LOL

The elbows are so last year here now. We have to buy either the spirals or Spongebob. One box of those character ones definitely don't go far here. Have you tried the Supermac? My oldest whinced when she opened the box and said, "Why are the noodles...brown?" She wouldn't touch it.

No measuring the amounts for boxed mac & cheese here, either. My kids love the boxed kind and hate the "real" stuff on the very rare occasion that I make it. To tell the truth, I like the boxed kind better, too! ;)

Sounds like Hamburger Helper in my house- my husband thinks it is the best thing in the world. Well, it makes things easy for me. So I don't complain.

My husband does that - about stuff he makes. Like opening the macncheese was SOOO hard... And how is it that it tastes SO much better when he makes it?? LOL. This is my first visit the infamous (all good) Big Yellow House. It's really quite lovely.

Now to get some mustard :)
